Chocolate Rum Cupcakes

These Chocolate Rum Cupcakes will definitely provide ‘death by chocolate’ sensation. Loaded with rum, one of the favorite treats of mine. I fell in love with boozy-chocolate taste a while ago, so I decided to serve it to my friends as well.

I took it a step further and boozed up the chocolate buttercream too… That was such a good idea… I absolutely recommend the recipe for anyone +21 !


  • 2 cups flour,
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3/4 cup sugar,
  • 150 g butter,
  • 2 eggs,
  • 1 cup milk,
  • 1/2- 3/4 cup rum
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/3 tsp baking soda


  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 5 cups confectioner’s sugar
  • 1/3 cup rum
  • 1/3 cup heavy cream


  1. Preheat the oven to 356° F. Line muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder,  baking powder and baking soda.
  3. In another bowl, combine sugar with butter.
  4. Add milk eggs, heavy cream and rum.
  5. Beat on medium speed.
  6. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix until evenly distributed.
  7. Fill each prepared cupcake liner about 3/4 full.
  8. Bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes.
  9. Remove to a wire rack and let cool completely before frosting.


  1. Melt the butter in a pot.
  2. Stir in the cocoa powder.
  3. Add mixture to a machine fitted with a whip attachment.
  4. Add in the vanilla extract and rum beat, then alternate adding confectioner’s sugar with the heavy cream till smooth and fluffy.
  5.  You can add more confectioner’s sugar if you want frosting to be thicker.
